Is The First Time Peppa Pig Has Been Caught On X-Ray?
Going in for an X-ray as a child can be pretty scary. Sometimes parents get to be in the room, but the security provided by a trusted toy is always a must. For this little girl, she would not get an X-ray unless her Peppa Pig doll was also on the X-ray table with her. Now, we have what archeologists may one day call, the earliest example of a Peppa Pig doll.
For anyone who has ever wondered if Peppa Pig has a skeleton, we are here to let you know that she does not. She does have a nice big metal head though.
Two Bones Too Many Makes For An Interesting Toe X-Ray
All of our bodies are unique and beautiful in different ways. When this man was born, doctors quickly noticed that something was a little bit different about one of his toes. Instead of a single toenail, his toe had two toenails on it. 22 years after being born, a radiologist finally stepped up to take a much needed X-ray of the toe, and find out why it is split like this.
The other toes all have one bone at the tip, but this unique toe actually has two bones. This is very rare and must have had a few doctors who study bones scratching their heads.
Multiple Hyperdontia Looks Like A Modern Day Vampire's Mouth
Are vampires real? Novels like Bram Stoker's "Dracula" and Stephanie Meyers' "Twilight" saga would have us believe so, but to date, no real vampires have been discovered. There are a lot of genetic mutations that can sometimes make people resemble vampires, and multiple hyperdontia might just be one of them. Multiple hyperdontia refers to a condition where someone has more than the regular amount of teeth, for adults, that is about 32.
This person doesn't just have a couple of extra teeth though, they appear to have three full sets of teeth.
SpongeBob SquarePants Goes Where No Sponge Has Gone Before
SpongeBob SquarePants who lives in a pineapple under the sea has somehow managed to find himself stuck in someone's stomach. We don't know what kind of adventure he was on, but Patrick Star is nowhere to be seen which is pretty rare for a duo that is rarely separated. If we had to guess how SpongeBob ended up here it would be because some poor kid accidentally swallowed it.
The smile on SpongeBob's face makes it look like he is pretty excited about his adventure inside of someone's body, but we're sure that this kid's parents were not happy at all.
Some MRIs Are Better Off Never Seeing The Light Of Day
MRIs and X-rays are not the same, but the resulting images can be just as hilarious. This person headed in for an MRI of their head and decided they wanted to see their results. If you have ever wondered what an MRI of a face looks like then this is it. The MRI image looks like it is a character straight out of a horror film or an alien that wants to eat humans.
What makes it particularly creepy is the brain just casually floating there and glowing green. It almost looks like one of the aliens from the movie "Mars Attacks."
Sometimes A Citizen's Arrest Doesn't Always Go According To Plan
Robberies happen all the time, but there are certain places where they are expected to happen like banks and convenience stores. One fine day, three men were waiting for their bus to come when they noticed that a robbery was in progress. Instead of just watching, they decided to jump in and try and save the day. They managed to stop the robbery, but one of the men was stabbed.
He wasn't stabbed on his body though but through his head. Astonishingly, he survived and was able to talk like nothing had happened while he was rushed to the hospital.
Understanding How Conjoined Twins Are Attached And Where
Modern medicine is pretty marvelous, but a lot of it is due to inventions like the X-ray. Conjoined twins are rare, but when they are born separating them surgically can be very difficult and dangerous. Where they are conjoined is what matters the most, and X-rays help to show where the connection is.
If we didn't know this was conjoined twins, we might think that this X-ray is from some kind of alien race that has made its way to Earth.
An X-Ray Photobomber Is On The Loose At This Hospital
Anyone who has had an X-ray knows that the X-ray technician or radiologist tends to step outside of the room when it is time to take the actual X-ray. The person getting X-rayed also has to wear protective clothing to avoid getting more radiation than necessary. The last thing most people want to do is photobomb an X-ray because they don't want to be exposed to radiation just for the fun of it.
All this photobomber seemed to care about was getting the perfect X-ray. The radiologist examining this X-ray must have snorted with laughter before remembering they need to be professional and catch this photobomber.
Work Place Accidents Happen All The Time But Not Like This
Working in construction often means working with expensive power tools that can do some serious damage to the human body. Ron Hunt was working on a job site when he felt himself slipping off of his ladder. That in itself must have been scary, but he just so happened to be using a drill when it happened. Instead of landing on a flat surface, Ron landed face-first on the drill bit.
While the drill bit did go through his skull, which this X-ray shows in all of the gory detail, he managed to have it removed and survive.
Nothing To See Here Except For A Swallowed Hair Clip
In the long list of weird objects that kids like to swallow, hair clips must be one of the weirdest. They don't look like candy, and kids definitely know they are made of metal. None of that phased this little girl when she thought that her hair clip needed to be eaten. A quick swallow and that hair clip went straight down to her stomach, and when her mom noticed she probably freaked out.
Doctors must get a kick out of seeing some of these weird objects that kids swallow. We're sure they are concerned as well, but there must be a lot of "Why?!" moments.
X-Rays After Surgeries Are A Must To Make Sure Nothing Is Forgotten
Medical treatment isn't the same everywhere, and sometimes doctors make mistakes just like everyone else. The only real difference is that if a doctor makes a mistake it can be life or death. In Australia, a patient by the name of Pat Skinner had been feeling a bit poorly after getting surgery 18 months prior. Pat had no idea why his stomach was still hurting after his surgery, but he definitely wanted to find out.
One quick X-ray later, and it became pretty obvious what the culprit was. A doctor had left a pair of surgical scissors inside of his body!
The Whole Kitten Caboodle Got Caught On Camera Or X-Ray
For humans, most pregnancies result in one, two, three, and rarely four or more babies. That is a whole lot of babies, but in the animal kingdom, multiples are the norm especially for cats and dogs. While a lot of stray cats end up pregnant, there are lots of people who like to breed cats like Ragdolls and Siamese. As soon as it becomes obvious a kitty is about to have some surprises it is time to hop in the carrier and visit the vet.
An X-ray of a pregnant cat's belly is pretty different than a human's. All of these little skeletons belong to kittens waiting to enter the world and meet their furever people.
The Curve Of A Woman's Foot In High Heels Is Intense
High heels have a way of making anyone who wears them look effortlessly classy. But, anyone who has ever worn a pair of five-inch stilettos knows that those sky-high heels can really do a number on feet. The shape of the heel contorts the foot into pretty unnatural positions, with a lot of the weight balanced on the front of the foot. That is exactly what this X-ray shows off.
Walking a mile in this person's shoes is not for the faint of heart, and a foot massage will definitely be needed after strutting around in these.
But How Did The Light Bulb Get Up There?
Being a doctor means dealing with a lot of people who may not want to share exactly how they ended up requiring medical care. At a prison in Pakistan, a prisoner presented with some discomfort and it got to the point where they needed to be seen by a doctor. One X-ray later, and doctors were able to see exactly what was causing that lower abdominal discomfort. It wasn't food that was causing issues.
The culprit in this X-ray is a mysterious light bulb that somehow ended up in the large intestine, and nobody was able to explain just how it got there.
What Came First, The Chicken Or The Egg?
Animals that lay eggs are some of the coolest on the planet. They tend to have reptilian features, and laying eggs is how dinosaurs used to reproduce back in the day. This rather large egg belongs to a Condor, which is a large bird in the vulture family. Someone must have seen this egg and realized it would be pretty neat to take a look under the shell at what is growing inside.
This definitely seems like something the scientists in "Jurassic Park" would have done to see what little dinosaurs are going to be running around. Here we just have a regular little bird growing.
What Does A Horse's Hoof Really Look Like When X-Rayed?
As far as beautiful creatures go, horses have to be one of the most beautiful if not the most on the planet. For centuries, horses have carried humans to the ends of the Earth, and continue to do so today. Their dainty legs end in even daintier hooves which makes guessing what a horse's skeleton might look like under their that much harder. Horses that are used as working animals tend to have horseshoes.
You can see by looking at this X-ray that the bones of a horse's leg end at the hoof, which is more like a gigantic toenail than anything else.
The Milkshakes Bring All The Rings To The Yard
Planning the perfect marriage proposal takes some time and dedication, and this guy in New Mexico thought he had gotten it just right. He knew his fiancee-to-be loved milkshakes and decided to propose to her by placing the engagement ring inside of her favorite drink. What he did not anticipate was that she would slurp the milkshake down before he could pop the big question, and swallow the engagement ring.
One quick trip to the emergency room later, and that ring was caught in an X-ray. We are assuming this ring just passed naturally through her system, and after a bit of a rinse, she was able to officially show it off.
Staying Connected Takes On A Whole Different Meaning Here
In prison, a lot of amenities that we associate with the outside world just aren't available, like access to a phone whenever you need to make a call. Most inmates have to get phone cards and wait their turn out by the pay phones whenever they want to call out. Some inmates have gotten a bit crafty when it comes to 'hiding' cellphones in places where others can't find them.
For one inmate in San Salvador, they were keeping their phone in a rather hard-to-reach spot, when they realized it had slipped just a little too far up that hidden compartment. This must have been a hard one to ask for help with.
Take A Look At All Of Those Turtle Eggs
Reptiles that lay eggs, like turtles, are not something we normally get to see X-rays of. Turtles tend to lay their eggs in sandy areas if they can find them, which means most humans don't get to see what the eggs look like inside of a turtle's body. One enterprising scientist came across this pregnant turtle and knew just what to do. They needed to get this turtle into an X-ray stat.
Turtle eggs hang out inside of the turtle's body until it is time for them to be laid. They aren't nice and orderly looking, but instead all jumbled together.
Goldfish Look Like Floating Dragons When X-Rayed
Goldfish are some of the most generic fish out there. Every pet store has a take of these little orange fish bobbing around, and they are very easy to look after. X-raying an animal that is swimming about seems like it would be pretty hard to do unless this goldfish has crossed over the rainbow bridge. We're not sure what the status of this goldfish is but the X-ray is pretty majestic.
You can see in great detail all of the tiny bones inside of the goldfish's body, which shows just how delicate these little guys really are.
Scissors As A Tool For Cleaning Teeth Should Be Avoided
Growing up, most kids are told not to run around with scissors. After seeing this X-ray, we finally understand why. Scissors, especially the sharp pointy end, can do some pretty serious damage. Oddly enough though, these scissors were not caught stabbing someone but instead were swallowed. In China, this person decided to pick their teeth clean with a pair of small scissors when someone told a particularly funny joke at the dinner table.
One big laugh and a large gulp later, and those scissors were swallowed and on their way to this person's stomach.
The First X-Ray Ever Taken Was Of A W. C. Röntgen's Hand
X-ray technology is not something new. It has been around since December 22, 1895. A man by the name of Wilhelm Röntgen is the one who took the first X-ray. Naturally, he X-rayed a very easy-to-reach part of the body: the hand. The X-ray technology in the 1800s wasn't the technology we know today, but it did provide the first look at the skeleton through the skin without having to perform any kind of autopsy.
The first X-ray is not that clear, but the major bones in the hand, including the knuckles, are easy to pick out for those of us that aren't X-ray technicians.
The Tale Of The Toothache, The Dentist, And The Nail
Getting a toothache is one of those everyday things that most people experience at least once in their lifetimes. A man by the name of Patrick Lawler thought that he had a cavity that needed to be checked out, so he headed to his local dentist's office for some quick X-rays. Much to his dentist's surprise, it was not a cavity that was causing him some serious pain in his brain.
Somehow, a nail had gotten lodged through his mouth, and the tip had gone into his brain. We would love to know just how that nail ended up in his head.
Snowflakes And Digestive Tracts Are Not The Best Of Friends
For some inexplicable reason, little kids love to grab things like coins and toys and swallow them. We don't know why this happens, maybe these just look like delicious pieces of candy waiting to be eaten? For this little guy, he saw a snowflake ornament and decided it would be a good idea to swallow it. The result is this X-ray and a panicked drive to the hospital to find out if he needed surgery.
Most of the time, doctors say to just wait and let swallowed items pass through the system naturally. The points on that snowflake must have felt a bit funky as they made it out the other end.
Take A Guess, Any Guess At What This Animal Is
Most of the time it is pretty easy to piece together what an animal is from its skeleton and X-ray. This X-ray is a bit puzzling though. It is very hard to tell the scale of the X-ray which means this could be a small animal or a big one. We know it has a tail, and four legs which makes it appear to be a mammal, but is it a dog or a rat?
If you guessed rat, then great job! While it might look like a dog skeleton, this is actually a rat laying on its side while it is being X-rayed.
This Is How Food Travels Through A Snake's Long Body
Snakes are one of the coolest reptiles on the planet. They are able to glide across the ground and coil themselves like a rope. It makes sense that they would have one long skeletal structure, but knowing that and seeing it are two different things. After enjoying a scrumptious dinner of rodent, this snake was X-rayed to show off both its skeleton and also what it had enjoyed for dinner.
The snake's digestive system is quite a long one, as that rodent is about midway through the snake's body now. Beware of any snakes looking for a snack!
Marriage Proposals And Food Don't Always Go According To Plan
Many people dream of the day that someone gets down on one knee and says, "Will you marry me?" Sometimes elaborate activities are planned, like having an engagement ring placed in a glass of champagne or baked into a dessert. Most of the time the person realizes what is happening, before they eat their engagement ring, but not this woman. She must have choked on this ring as she realized that she was being proposed to.
The good news is that she has internalized her engagement instead of just wearing a ring on her finger. We really hope she actually got to see her ring in all of its shining glory, even after passing through some stomach acid.
Oftentimes The X-Ray Is Able To Tell The Entire Story
When certain crimes are committed involving people, X-rays are used to show what the weapons used were. One person, who sadly passed away, had their life taken in a very unusual manner. After taking a look at the crime scene, the investigators decided to get an X-ray taken of the victim's head. It was obvious that something had happened, but they weren't sure exactly what. As soon as they saw the X-ray, they knew.
Someone had used a nail gun, and the man's head was chock full of nails. It must have been an unpleasant way to go, but the X-ray is pretty interesting to look at.
Be Careful Around Bows And Arrows Adults And Children
It's not every day that you see someone out hunting with a bow and arrow or practicing archery with them. In China, this child had been going about his business when out of nowhere, he got an arrow through his eye socket. The incident was an accident, but that didn't change the fact that this little guy needed to be rushed to the hospital for emergency medical care right away.
Luckily for him, the arrow seemed to have missed everything important and he was able to survive the accident. Doctors must have been astonished to see this.
Electric Blankets Are Not Meant To Be Eaten By Snakes
Unlike humans, if you tell a snake what to do, they probably won't understand what you are saying. Somehow, this snake not only found an electric blanket, but it also managed to eat the entire blanket and begin the slow process of digesting it through its very long body. The snake itself was 12 feet long and belonged to someone in Idaho when it was rushed to the vet for an X-ray.
After examining the X-ray, the vet knew that this snake needed some quick surgery if it was going to survive. Snakes and electric blankets just don't mix.
Soldiers Are Trained To Withstand Anything Including Head Stab Wounds
Anyone who knows someone in the military, has been in the military themselves, or watched a movie about the military knows that all recruits go through an intense training period. We're not going to ask how this happened, but this soldier found themselves on the wrong end of a knife which resulted in a pretty sketchy situation and some major surgery. The X-ray alone makes us wonder how this guy is still alive.
Miraculously, after an intense surgery, the knife was removed and no major complications were experienced by the soldier post-operation.
Sharp Objects Need To Be Kept Far Away From Puppies
Puppies are naturally curious. They are basically like toddlers, and everything is new to them. After sniffing around, this little pup somehow found a 13-inch long knife with a serrated edge. Finding the knife is pretty terrifying, but this puppy decided to swallow it whole. This was a St. Bernard puppy, so it was bigger than your average pup, but that doesn't mean that swallowing a knife isn't going to affect it.
The knife ended up stuck between the puppy's esophagus and the stomach and required some emergency surgery to remove it.
Eating Cobblestones Is An Odd Way To Show Some Love
There are a lot of ways to show that you love someone. Most people simply do it by saying, "I love you" to the object of their affection, while others shower their significant other with expensive gifts and dinners. This woman in China found herself fighting with her loved one and decided to show her displeasure in the weirdest way possible - eating cobblestones. 20 cobblestones later and her body was in some serious distress.
You can see all of the cobblestones in this X-ray, and they definitely weren't pushed out of her body by eating and drinking the way she thought they would be.
Keys Need To Be Kept Away From Babies
A lot of parents like to jingle their keys in front of their babies to entertain them and keep them from crying while out in public. There is just something about shiny keys that always make babies smile and coo. This X-ray is a slightly cautionary tale though. Somehow, a 17-month old baby managed to get this set of keys through its eye socket and all the way into its skull.
You would think that some serious damage may have been done, but this little one managed to survive and not have any major complications. Now that is some good doctoring!
Bathtubs Should Have Built-In Handles And Here Is Why
Washing off the day in a nice hot shower is a great way to prepare for bed and enjoy some quiet time. A man named Yi Zhao thought that was what he was doing when all of sudden he slipped and landed very hard in his tub. Normally, this might have resulted in some broken bones but what ended up happening is what is seen in this X-ray. Some plumbing entered his skull.
The area where the faucet is had gotten lodged in his head, and required some serious surgery. We really hope he made it out of this one okay.
Leave These Kinds Of Movements To The Pros
It's always fascinating to see athletes at the top of their game, whether in the Super Bowl, the World Cup, or in various events in the Olympics. People can do some incredible things with their bodies. What is really next level, though, is seeing how their bodies can accomplish these feats on the inside. This contortionist was x-rayed by scientists while performing a particular maneuver that should clearly only be attempted by well-trained professionals.
The trainer of this contortionist pointed out to the scientists how so much of her spine stays straight while doing this "head to butt" maneuver--he says that the secret of a successful backbend lies in a supple neck. We'll take his word for it.
Understanding The Human Body A Bit Better
There are many people who, for various reasons, gain a lot of weight which can impact their lives. There was one specific case of a man in the UK who was unfortunately stuck inside his house for years because he was unable to move due to his overwhelming weight. He weighed over 900 pounds and worked hard to lose enough weight to have some life-saving surgery performed. He managed to lose over 250 pounds, enough to be able to receive the surgery he needed.
This image was produced as a simulation of what his body scan would have looked like, to help better understand what the doctors were working with. At his weight at the time, the x-ray and other medical imaging devices available were actually too small for his size.
